The long awaited “Snyder Cut” has been released this morning at 3am on CRAVE in CANADA and HBO MAX in the UNITED STATES. Other jurisdictions have their exclusive platform where fans can watch the 4-hour film.
I can say I did enjoy the film. Saying that the film makes more sense than the theatrical cut is an understatement. But the DCEU Masterpiece is still BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE. I say that with the utmost respect. The third film in a trilogy seems to always hit a snag in film / movie history, but ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE is the ending of a trilogy that is satisfying, epic, and humble.
The film is broken down in to seven chapters:
- “Don’t Count on It, Batman”
- The Age of Heroes.
- Beloved Mother, Beloved Son.
- “Change Machine”
- All the King’s Horses.
- “Something Darker”
- Epilogue: “A Father Twice Over”
This decision, in my opinion, affected the editing of the film. I think if the chapters were not used, elements of the film would not have been included in the final cut, and most likely reduce the film’s running time. The 2nd half of the film had almost perfect sequencing. The film’s first half could have used a little bit more work and trimming but who’s complaining? The film didn’t feel like 4-hours because I was into the character development and there were no distractions to the main story, unlike most modern day blockbusters. Knowing there was seven chapters in the film did let me know when the film was eventually coming to an end.
ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE surpasses its MARVEL rival AVENGERS: ENDGAME because it actually took the subject matter serious instead of using dedicated fan service for “likes”. Disappointing families across the Nation, AVENGERS: ENDGAME’s execution crashed harder than HBO MAX when fans logged on to watch this film with great anticipation. And Tom Holkenborg’s original soundtrack with large horns and heavy drums helped give the film an even grander scale of epicness.
ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE is a long movie, but it won’t feel that way. But if you’re the type to complain about a 4-hour JUSTICE LEAGUE movie, you are probably not a fan. One of the downsides to this film is Henry Cavill’s Superman taking a backseat, again, to focus more on Batman’s redemption. From Steppenwolf’s relentlessness to Cyborg’s impactfulness, ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE is worth the wait.
